MMWR devices listen to the faint microwave your tissues emit from a few centimetres deep — the same signal that tracks how your metabolism, circulation and thermoregulation age. One five-minute scan. No blood. No radiation. No lab.
Every tissue emits weak electromagnetic energy in the microwave band, set by its temperature and blood flow a few centimetres below the skin — deeper than any infrared camera can see.
The probe reads deep microwave emission and surface temperature at 22 points, building a thermal field and the deep-to-surface gradient that carries the strongest ageing signal.
Machine-learning models turn the field into a single BEI score (0–100) and an age-referenced BioAge estimate — a readout of how your metabolic, vascular and autonomic systems are tracking.
Because it's non-invasive and takes minutes, you can measure as often as you like and see how sleep, training, diet and therapies shift your thermophysiology over time.
In a large-scale study published in Diagnostics (2026), thermophysiological features from MWR predicted chronological age at an accuracy comparable to first-generation epigenetic clocks — from a single, non-invasive measurement.
| Ageing clock | Typical R² | Error (RMSE) | What it costs you |
|---|---|---|---|
| DNA-methylation (Horvath, Hannum, PhenoAge) | 0.70–0.92 | 3–7 yrs | Blood draw · lab · batch effects · delayed result |
| Proteomic / metabolomic | 0.65–0.90 | 4–8 yrs | Invasive · expensive · assay-dependent |
| Wearable-derived (HRV, sleep, activity) | 0.40–0.65 | 5–10 yrs | Noisy · needs long-term tracking |
| Thermophysiological BEI this work | ≈0.80 | ≈4.8 yrs | Non-invasive · single scan · no blood, no lab |

Epigenetic tests are powerful — but you can't run one every week. MWR gives the quantified-self and longevity community a deep-physiology readout that's fast, repeatable and painless enough to become a habit.
Passive microwave sensing means no blood, no injection, no ionising radiation. Just place the probe and read.
A five-minute scan you can repeat weekly — the cadence you actually need to see whether a protocol is working.
Wrist wearables read the surface. MWR reads centimetres into the tissue, where the metabolic and vascular ageing signal lives.
Because deep-tissue heat tracks mitochondrial, vascular and autonomic function, BEI is a natural readout for exercise, diet, sleep and therapeutic trials.
The BioEnergy Index is a single 0–100 score plus an age-referenced BioAge — learned from thermophysiology alone, never from your birthday.
MWR2025 is available for programmes today; MWR2026 brings a clinical-grade, regulated version as approval completes.
The BioEnergy Index is an age-referenced physiological measurement, not an outcome-validated clinical test. The 36,391-person study is cross-sectional and, at this stage, based on breast thermophysiology in women; extending to other body regions and to longitudinal, outcome-linked validation is ongoing work.
BEI should be read as a research and wellness signal for tracking change over time — not as a diagnosis of disease or a guaranteed predictor of lifespan. MWR2025 ships as a general wellness / research instrument. MWR2026 is a Class I medical device with documentation submitted for approval and is not yet cleared for clinical sale.
Microwave radiometry reaches far past ageing — women's health and breast screening research, oncology, neuro and brain-temperature monitoring, and ongoing device R&D. Explore the full clinical and research programme.
